Clay remembers everything — every impression, every brush of a finger, every carved line. Mark & Memory is a surface decoration course that explores how to leave your mark — intentionally. Perfect for beginners and experienced makers alike, this course invites you to experiment with a range of decorative techniques that turn your pottery into personal, textured, and expressive work. From carving and stamping to underglaze painting and transfer printing, you’ll discover how surface design can transform even the simplest form into a piece with texture, and emotion.

How to build rich surfaces in layers — through carving, painting, and printing on clay

Q: Do I need any prior pottery experience to join this course?
Not at all! This course is perfect for beginners and experienced potters alike. It’s focused on surface decoration, so you're welcome even if you’ve never worked with clay before.
Q: Will I be making my own pieces?
You'll be working with studio-provided test tiles and 3 kg of clay to make simple forms for decoration. No prior wheel or handbuilding experience needed.
Q: Can I bring my own pottery to decorate?
To keep things consistent and focused, we’ll be working only with studio-prepared tiles and clay pieces made during the course. Outside pieces are not part of this course.
Q: Are tools and materials included?
Yes — everything you need is provided, including underglazes, slips, carving tools, brushes, stamps, and clay.
Q: Is glazing and firing included?
Absolutely. You'll get 2 kiln firings and studio glazing for all the pieces made during your sessions.
